I wish I could say for certainty. I do not think that would matter so much as the knowledge of outside eyes on him might. Even that is still not guaranteed, but sometimes it does make him hesitate.

Hesitating long enough to find the true culprits without any extra murder might be enough.

That is my hope as well. The examinations of the bodies have been revealed.

It is strange. Jace could swim. He loved to swim. Anyone who would have killed him that way would have had to fight him greatly, yet they say there was no sign of a fight or injury. How could he have drowned without behind drowned or hurting himself so he could not swim to safety?

[ He might not have struggled if it were someone he trusted that killed him. It seems unwise to say this to his sister. ]

Maybe he was drugged, like Mr. Lehnsherr. And drowned to finish him off, to throw people off the trail.

I'm sorry, by the way. About your brother, that this is happening at all.

We are betrothed. Were, I suppose now.

Drugging perhaps, but he was with me until we left the party last night. He only went back to fetch something I forgot. I do not think he would have lingered to drink anything. Maybe if someone he knew offered it to him... but he knew I was waiting for him to return to me. I do not think he would have lingered for a drink.

Did he have any other friends that you're aware of?

Because if he wasn't drugged, it must have been someone he wasn't threatened by.

I know of Caroline. But I do not know how close they were.

But even were someone he knew to take him to the lake, he would not passively let even a friend drown him.

Could magic impact his ability to resist?

Drugged against his will, then? With more aggressive tactics than spiking a drink.

Sadly, I'm not well-versed in the ways of magic. But I think so. I've been forced to calm myself from magic.

Parisa was drained of all her blood.

Drained of blood. Yes. I almost forgot.

One of the vampires is blond.

Caroline is blond.

I don't know her. Do you think she's capable of such a thing?

I would think Aemond more capable of it than her, but it's the only other long, blond friend of Jace's that I know of. And Aemond swore to me it was not him.

But I don't know her well enough to know if she has magic of any kind.

Who is the blond vampire?

His name is Lestat.

Not a name I recognize. That does not necessarily mean that Jace did not know him, however.

He might not have had to, if he were forced into calm with vampire magic.

I would ask why target Jace, but maybe Jace was just there. And alone.

I made the mistake of letting Jace return to the ball alone to fetch something on my behalf. I shouldn't have left his side.

I'm not accusing him. Not without more evidence. But I know he likes younger men. Brunettes.

You can't blame yourself. You couldn't have known.

Nor am I. But someone in this house is telling stories. Unfortunately, we must look at all possibilities.
